Travelers in Italy are being advised to plan ahead and avoid inland areas as a storm surge has threatened the area.
The Met Office in London warned people to take cover if they live inland and to monitor their weather forecasts for storms.
It said: “If the storm surge is greater than a metre (3.8 feet) it is possible that people may need to leave their homes or move into shelters.”
Met Office spokesman David Hill said the storm was expected to move inland to the west of the capital, with gusts of up to 110mph (185km/h).
He said the wind shear was expected at speeds of up 30mph (48km/hr).
“We expect the storm to be over the weekend but it could be possible to see some damage from flooding,” he said.
“This could also cause further damage to the city centre, but we should be safe for now.”
